Linear Guides & Bearings
Profile Rail Linear Guides
The Thomson Profile Rail assortment consists of the next generation Profile Rail 500 Series ball and roller linear guides, 400 Series, AccuMini, compact miniature MicroGuide®, and lightweight T-Series. It is a complete offering of rails and carriages in a broad range of styles, sizes and unique features produced to industry standard dimensions for easy retrofitting into existing applications or designing into new applications.
Round Rail Shafting
Thomson RoundRail shafting is manufactured to the highest quality standards in an ISO 9001:2015 registered facility to provide industry leading surface finish, roundness, straightness and cylindricity. Thomson offers the widest selection of linear shafting in the industry to ensure optimal performance, minimal maintenance and long life.
Linear Ball Bushing Bearings
Thomson offers the world’s largest selection of state-of-the-art linear bearings. Choose from several families of inch or metric linear bearings and accessories to meet your specific design needs, including our Super Smart Ball Bushings, which offer load capacities up to 7760 lb. When used with RoundRail linear guides, the inherent self-aligning-in-all-directions design of these linear bearings allows for ultra-smooth travel when mounted to wider-toleranced prepared surfaces. When used with Thomson 60 Case® shafting, our linear bearings last up to 50% longer than conventional bearings.
The ball screw drive is an assembly that converts rotary motion to linear motion (or vice versa). It consists of a ball screw and a ball nut packaged as an assembly with recirculating balls. The interface between the ball screw and the nut is made by balls which roll in matching ball forms. With rolling elements, the ball screw drive has a low friction coefficient (typically up to 98%). The forces transmitted are distributed over a large number of balls, giving a low relative load per ball comparatively.
Thomson BSA® precision lead screws are an excellent economical solution for your linear motion requirements. For more than 25 years, Thomson BSA has designed and manufactured the highest quality lead screw assemblies in the industry. Our precision rolling machines ensure accurate positioning to 0.003 in/ft and our PTFE coating process produces assemblies that have less drag torque and last longer.
Industrial Linear Actuators
For more than 50 years, Thomson has pioneered the development of advanced electric linear actuators, delivering efficient, long-life and value-driven solutions to countless applications. Browse the many resources below to discover which actuator is ideal for your next linear motion project.
Stepper Motor Linear Actuators
Thomson stepper motor linear actuators combine a hybrid stepper motor and a precision lead screw in one compact envelope. Our stepper motor linear actuators are now offered in three basic configurations – rotating screw (MLS), rotating nut (MLN) and actuator (MLA).
Linear Motion Systems
Linear Motion Systems
The diverse range of Thomson guide and drive systems can be configured to work in harsh environments, at high speeds and in high-precision applications — all while striking a balance of performance, life and cost. RediMount motor mounting adapter kits are now available as standard on all systems, making the process of choosing and mounting a motor much faster and easier.
Thomson Lifting Columns are designed with the same care and expertise as Thomson’s industry-leading series of linear actuators. During the development process, our focus was on space saving, modern design, high performance, and safe operation. Along with our maintenance free life, easy installation, and light weight envelope, these lifting columns are a first choice for domestic, medical, and work place applications.
Ruggedly designed and produced with load-handling capacities up to 100 tons, Thomson screw jacks can be employed individually or easily configured into a multitude of synchronized, motorized arrangements. These precise, highly efficient and long-life components are built to your exact specifications, making them ideal for industrial, automation, military and defense, and many other demanding applications.
Stainless Steel Actuators
Designed as an alternative to pneumatic cylinders in food and beverage applications, Thomson SA-20 stainless steel linear actuators conform to several hygienic design guidelines and are IP69K rated, enabling sanitary washdown during operation. These actuators also reduce the cost of washdown, including maintenance and air, and eliminate the need for replacement due to leakage.
